Gettysburg College is a private four-year liberal arts college in Gettysburg, which is a borough in the US state of Pennsylvania, serving as the county seat of Adams County, with a population of over 7000 inhabitants, at the time of the 2000 census.
The college was established in 1832 and first started as a sister institution for the Lutheran Theological Seminary. It was founded by Samuel Simon Schmucker and its original name was Pennsylvania College. It was renamed Gettysburg College, after the Battle of Gettysburg took place, in which many of the college's students participated.
Gettysburg's athletic teams are known as the Bullets and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are orange and blue.
